Places to visit for more information on purses:
To drool even more you can check out the Bag Lady's
place. She has a really big collection of purses for sale but be
warned they aren't cheap!

If your really interested in collectible purses there is a book
written by Kate E. Dooner and it is called 'Plastic Handbags -
Sculpture to Wear'. This book deals strictly with Lucite and
Plastic purses and is the bible for any serious collector.
This is the pinnacle of Lucite purse books called
'A Certain Style - The
Art of the Plastic Handbag, 1949-1959' by Robert
Gottlieb. I was very lucky to have a sister who got this for me
as a pressie but it is out of print and most copies go for over
$150.00. It is really a coffee table type of book as there are
about 130 plates of different purses and really not much of a
resource for how they came about, etc. But man is is quite a
book! If you like
click here and you can check out what is available on
Abebooks.

Also by Kate E. Dooner is a book called 'A Century of
Handbags'. It is a nice book along with a price guide.
I've finally managed to secure a copy for myself. It seems
I'm not the only one interested in this book. =) It
does however, concentrate a lot on alligator purses. Otherwise
it is a very informative book.

Yes, another book is a book called 'Popular
Purses: It's in the Bag!' by Leslie Pina.
It is findable - but expensive $40.00 a copy. I have now
finally gotten myself a copy of it - birthday pressie from my
sister. =)

This book 'Vintage - The Art of Dressing Up' by Tracy Tolkien is
about vintage clothing and does have a section on purses, some
Lucite and others as well. Very good book and worth the
expense.

This book is new and I got a copy as a present for my birthday!
It's by Anna
Johnson and is called 'Handbags - The Power of the Purse'.
There's a lot of pictures in here and a few bits on Lucite
purses as well. There is also a similar book called Shoes (not sure of who the
author is though!).

This book is by Tracy Tolkien (same person who did Vintage) and
I've not gotten a copy for myself just yet. It is a bit on
the thin side but I have gotten it out at the library.
Worth a look though.

The book is called 'A Century of Style - Bags; Icons of Style in
the 20th Century' by Claire Wilcox. I got it ages ago and
it is still available via Amazon.
Although it isn't specifically about Lucite purses it does have
a bit of everything for anyone who loves purses - haven't a clue
who those people are though! =)

This book I recently got on eBay however, I'll have to let you
know what it's all about when I receive it from my sister in the
States.

Another eBay find for yes $1.00 - I know you can hate me
later. It is OK - a book more about what's in the purse
than the purse itself. It's available via Amazon
if you want to get your own copy.

Another book by Barbara Hagerty. There is a history of
handbags and more personal stories about what women carry in
their purse. Good photos but by no means a definitive book
on purses.

Yes, another one for the list that never diminishes! Not
gotten a hold of a copy of it yet but I shall soon so stay
tuned! =)

Another one I've not seen but hope to soon. Looks at least
worth a browse just from the cover.
Want to view an original Wilardy tag that once adorned a Lucite
bag? Then click here - I found
this on a web site but can't remember just exactly where.
If it's on your site please let
me know (e-mail address on index
page) so I can put in a link of your site.
And now the ultimate in handbag apparel is a hanger
to hang your purse from whilst out dining. Yes, I have one
- but have yet to really 'use' it in a real life situation.
If you're ever in London and want to view some purses up close
and personal try this
place. It's run by Linda Bee and although not cheap (make
sure you have plenty of cash if your willpower isn't great) she
has a fabulous collection!
Oh boy is this a find. A Lucite Museum
for us purse people. A bit slow but worth a look. Give it a
try!
Try Diem's Lucite Handbag
gallery. Worth a visit.
Here's an article
about Lucite bags. And of course here
is another.
Want a new but different purse? If you have the cash to
spare visit
this page.
Be warned though they aren't cheap! Have I ever shown you
something inexpensive? Umm, never mind don't answer that!
Want to know what not to test on your Lucite purse? Try
this
page.
I have a collection of pictures of purses I've found through the
WWW. Click here to go to that
page.
Here's a purse
museum. Yes a real live place in Holland that chronicle's
the life of the purse. Can you guess where I'm going next time
I'm in Holland?
Want a listing of everything purse related? Found
this site
by accident but its worth hours of browsing fun! Enjoy!
This site
is new but growing in size and is about the stories of women and
their purses. Very interesting site and I hope to soon
write a story of my own for it soon - when I get a break from school
work!
Revised: 02 March 2007.
